"O Canada"

The Canadian national anthem was written in 1879 - 80. The Heritage Canada website states:

""O Canada" was proclaimed Canada's national anthem on July 1, 1980, 100 years after it was first sung on June 24, 1880. The music was composed by Calixa Lavallée, a well-known composer; ....."

This is a canard. What Lavalée did was adapt a melody from a composition written on 28 Sept 1791 by Mozart. Listen to this tune and judge for yourself: play.

The song is "The March of the Priests" from Mozart's popular opera The Magic Flute.
