William's wife, Madeline, survived until 30 Jun 1964 when she died at age 94. She is buried in her Francis family's plot in Fairview Cemetery, Niagara Falls, Ont. Her memorial is inscribed: "Madeline Calvert, wife of William F. Calvert" (grave marker). William and Madeline's three children are buried beside her in the Francis family plot - son James, daughter Eva and daughter Madeline.

There must have been some shame in my family attached to this story. My grandfather was named after William Fenwick Calvert. My father, from his birth in 1914, lived with William Calvert and was 14 years old when William Calvert died. Yet his name was never mentioned to me by anyone. Prior to doing this research, I had never heard the name William Fenwick Calvert.

My father always said his grandfather had left the family in 1893 when, in fact, it was William Calvert who left to marry in Detroit in that year. My father's grandfather, Samuel MacDonald, had left in 1883. There was never any mention by my father of anyone named Samuel MacDonald.
