Joseph Hanes (10 Sep 1726 - 21 Jan 1802)

Joseph Hanes was born 10 Sep 1726 in Bavaria. He emigrated to the United States prior to the Revolutionary War. During the Revolutionary War he joined the British Military (King's Royal Rangers of New York) and fought against local militias during the War. At the close of the War he moved to the Montreal area then to Eastern Ontario. His daughter Eve married Capt. Asahel Wright in Cornwall, Ont. She later applied for, and was granted, land as a first generation descendant of a U.E.L. Here is her land petition of 7 June 1798 showing she was the daughter of Joseph Hanes U.E. (petition).
